Early Koon Home in Florida

Early Koon Home in Florida

This is a picture of the house where my 2nd great grandmother, Lavinia Amanda Taylor Koon (1825-1906) lived in Columbia County, Florida. I believe it is the old plantation house from when she and my 2nd great grandfather, Abasalom Koon (1822-1865, CSA) lived when they came to Florida from Newberry County, South Carolina in 1858. It is still standing! What a find! Clapboard houses were more of what Margaret Mitchell meant that "Tara" would have looked like in "Gone with the Wind". It is said that what actually ended up in the movie, ".. would have made a Clayton County farmer rub his eyes".

Thanks to Harold Murphy...
